SELECTION PROCESS 2024

The purpose of this article is to outline a method to select members for the USA WTC 2024 Teams.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Residents of the United States may play for the USA WTC team.

Before submitting an application, a potential USA Team Captain should only submit an application if they feel that they can fulfill the obligations expected of a USA Team Captain.

EXPECTATIONS

All USA WTC Team Members must be able to travel to the WTC event and must have the financial capability to cover the entire cost of the event. The cost of the event is expected to be at least $3,000. Team Captain and all Team Members should be prepared to cover all expenses.

Team Members are expected to actively communicate with their fellow Team Members and with the USA WTC Committee. Team Members are expected to take the necessary steps to be well practiced and prepared to play at the WTC event. Team Members should also be prepared to travel to at least one of the two sanctioned team practices: Bokur Brawl or the American Team Championship (ATC) at Adepticon. Team Members are expected to exhibit high levels of sportsmanship.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Anyone who is a resident of the United States can apply to be a Captain of a USA WTC Team. Resumes will be due by February 5, 2024 9:00 PM EST and should be submitted via Google Form by clicking here or copying and pasting this URL in your browser: https://forms.gle/pRzgGTWEP8gCisYRA.

The resumes may include tournament wins from Masters events, Iron Gauntlet events, and the WTC. Resumes will be posted on the USA WTC website. Resumes that are submitted mainly for the purpose of humor will not be posted on the USA WTC website.

The tournaments that a player may list on their resume are limited to Masters events, Iron Gauntlet events, and the WTC events to help the Selection Committee evaluate the tournament wins on the resume. For example, if a player listed the Idaho Cup on their resume, most of the judges would not know enough information about that event to evaluate its importance.

Resumes are limited to achievements from January 1st, 2022 to February 4, 2024, to give a fair chance for newer players to earn a spot on the team and to incentivize veteran players to continue to improve their resumes.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

The Selection Committee will be comprised of up to five members. The members should represent different geographic regions and be involved in running major events in the region. It is preferred that the Selection Committee should be comprised of tournament organizers. Members of the Selection Committee may not submit resumes to apply for the team.

Members of the Selection Committee will vote to select three USA WTC Captains by February 9, 2023. The Selection Committee will select the three Captains from submitted applications. The Captains will then select their Team Members. The Captains have autonomy to use any criteria when selecting their Team Members. Team Members are not limited to those who submitted applications. Team Members selected must be residents of the United States.

The Americas Team Championship will take place at Adepticon in Schaumburg, IL, which runs from March 20-24, 2024. For more information and the specific date of the team tournament, visit adepticon.org.

The Bokur Brawl will take place in Manville, NJ on April 26-28, 2024. More information can be found at thebokurbrawl.com.

Prepayment of 200 EUR per team is due upon selection. Team Captains and Team Members will be contacted directly within 24 hours of team selection.

TEAM CAPTAINS

Each USA WTC Team must have a Team Captain. The Team Captains will be in charge of leading the training and preparation for the team, directing communication among the team and with the USA WTC Committee, and at the WTC they will be in charge of selecting player pairings during the event.

If a player drops from a USA WTC Team after teams are formed, the Team Captain of that team may select the replacement.

A Team Captain selects who to list as the player alternate for WTC list submission.

This will be the selection process for 2024. This selection process will be reviewed to determine if any alterations are needed for 2025.
